1. Introduction
Mixed Mental Health (“MMH”, “we”, “us”, or “our”) is a Community Interest Company (CIC) dedicated to connecting mixed-heritage and multi-cultural individuals with culturally competent therapists and wellbeing practitioners. Your privacy is a priority, and we are committed to being transparent about how we handle your personal data.
This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect when you use our directory, how we protect it, and your rights under the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018.
2. Our role: connection platform
MMH is a connection platform, not a referral brokerage or a clinical provider. Our model is designed to facilitate discovery: users find practitioners on our site and contact them via the therapists’ own external channels (such as email, phone, or their personal website). We do not broker messages, manage bookings, or conduct clinical intake on our site.
3. The data we collect
We adhere strictly to the principle of data minimisation, collecting only the personal information necessary to provide our service effectively.
- For therapists and practitioners: We collect professional details, which include your name, accreditation body, membership numbers, insurance status, cultural competencies, languages spoken, and fees.
- For clients and users: We collect basic contact information (such as your name and email address) when you register for an account or opt-in to receive marketing updates.
- Special-category data: While we may ask about identity and heritage to support culturally resonant matches, we do not store clinical data (e.g., presenting issues, health history, or therapy session notes) within our systems.
4. Lawful basis for processing
Under the UK GDPR, we must have a valid lawful basis to process your personal data. We rely on the following grounds:
- Performance of a contract: To manage therapist subscriptions and user accounts.
- Legitimate Interests: To maintain and improve the directory, develop our resource hub, and prevent misuse of the platform.
- Consent: For marketing opt-ins and the optional publication of identity-specific heritage data on therapist profiles. You have the right to withdraw your consent at any time.
5. Data retention and security
- Security: We implement industry-standard safeguards, including encryption and strict access controls, to protect your personal data against unauthorised access, alteration, or destruction.
- Retention: We retain your information only for as long as necessary to fulfil the purposes outlined in this policy. Therapist listing data is held for the duration of the active subscription. Marketing contact data is retained until you choose to opt out.
6. Your rights
Under the UK GDPR, you possess several rights regarding your personal data:
- The right to access: You can request copies of your personal data.
- The right to rectification: You have the right to request that we correct any information you believe is inaccurate or incomplete.
- The right to erasure: You can request that we erase your personal data, under certain conditions.
- The right to restrict processing: You have the right to request that we restrict the processing of your personal data.
- The right to object: You can object to our processing of your personal data.
To exercise any of these rights, please contact our Data Protection Lead at hello@mixedmentalhealth.com.
7. ICO registration and complaints
MMH is registered with the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO). Our registration number is displayed prominently on our platform. If you feel that we have not addressed your data protection concerns satisfactorily, you have the right to lodge a complaint with the ICO.
